Trading Card Glossary
Trading-card collecting has its own vocabulary, whether you're talking about a physical shoebox of cardboard or a digital binder. Here's what the common terms actually mean — and where you'll recognize each one in Rip Daily.

- Base card
- The standard, most common version of a card in a set — no special finish, no serial number, just the default printing.
- In Rip Daily: your Common-rarity pulls. Every player has a Base version before any parallel.
- Chase card
- Whichever card in a set collectors specifically hunt for — usually the rarest, most desirable, or hardest to pull.
- In Rip Daily: any One-of-One, or a Gridiron Legends insert — the lowest-odds pull in the game.
- Checklist
- The official list of every card in a set, used to track what you have and what you still need.
- In Rip Daily: your Binder tab is your checklist — locked slots show who you're still missing.
- Chrome
- A card printed on shiny, chromium-coated stock instead of plain cardboard — popularized by Topps Chrome in the 1990s and now a whole category of premium products.
- In Rip Daily: the base finish on every card — the whole game is built around the chrome look.
- Dupe (duplicate)
- A second (or third, or tenth) copy of a card you already own.
- In Rip Daily: dupes can be sold individually or all at once from the Binder — see How to Play.
- Hit
- Hobby slang for any valuable or exciting pull from a pack — "I got a hit!" doesn't specify which kind, just that it was good.
- In Rip Daily: anything Holo/Chrome or better — that's when the reveal gets a sound sting and a burst of light.
- Insert card
- A card from a separate themed subset mixed into packs alongside the base set, usually with its own unique design rather than matching the flagship look.
- In Rip Daily: the four Series 1 sets — Throwback Chrome, Golden Boot, Team Captains, Gridiron Legends — each printed in its own distinct design. Details on How to Play.
- Numbered card
- A card with its exact print run stamped on it, like "#42/99" — you're holding copy 42 of only 99 ever made.
- In Rip Daily: the Numbered rarity tier, always printed out of 99.
- Odds
- The published probability of pulling a given rarity from a pack. Serious hobby brands print these on the wrapper; many countries require it by law for anything sold for real money.
- In Rip Daily: published in full on Pack Odds — and since there's no real-money purchase path at all, nothing here is regulated the way a paid pack would be.
- One-of-One (1/1)
- A card that exists as exactly one physical copy in the entire world — the ultimate chase item in any set.
- In Rip Daily: literal — each player's 1/1 can only ever be pulled once, by one collector, ever.
- Parallel
- A version of a base card reprinted in a different color, finish, or serial number — collectors sometimes chase the full "rainbow" of every parallel for one card.
- In Rip Daily: the whole rarity ladder is a rainbow of parallels — Green, Purple, and Prism Refractor, then Red Refractor (numbered) and Superfractor (1/1).
- PC (personal collection)
- The cards a collector has set aside to keep rather than sell or trade — usually built around a favorite player or team.
- A pure hobby term — Rip Daily doesn't have trading yet, so for now, your whole Binder is your PC.
- Refractor
- A chrome parallel with a rainbow, light-splitting prism finish — the signature look of premium chrome card products.
- In Rip Daily: every card above Base carries a refractor finish, animated as a foil sweep across Holo/Chrome and up.
- Set
- The complete collection of cards making up one release. A "master set" means every base card and every parallel and insert.
- In Rip Daily: the base set is 192 players across 32 teams; a true master set adds all six rarities per player plus all four insert sets.
- Superfractor
- The name Topps gives its rarest 1/1 chrome parallel — a distinct, exclusive refractor pattern reserved only for the single numbered-1 card.
- In Rip Daily: the parallel name printed on every One-of-One's nameplate.
- Wax (ripping wax)
- Old-school slang for packs or boxes, from the wax-paper wrappers hobby packs used decades ago. "Ripping wax" just means opening packs.
- In Rip Daily: it's the whole game — drag to tear the foil wrapper on every pack you open.
